Keep calm, follow the rules… We’re going to get through this!

This article is not for people who’ve been hit hard by COVID, or who have lost someone to COVID because I might sound a little insensitive to them (that is not my intention).

I feel it’s about time we did a reality check. We are facing a real existential threat here. And the best of us are fighting real hard against that threat (I’m not one of them, and I can only imagine how hard it might be).

We all know about COVID.

So hard that I can’t even realize who’s the victim in this one…

It hit us, hard.

And it’s here to stay.

We are working on vaccines, analyzing all the strains and we might be able to somehow develop immunity against it but that’s not happening anywhere near future.

Stop blaming the system. The system was designed to benefit us, to support us, not to live our lives for us. And nothing is perfect. It’s been a work in progress, it is a work in progress, and it will always be a work in progress.

We are facing a threat to our lives, the conditions in which we live have changed. So it’s safe to say that we need our systems to change as well. And they are changing. People (the best one that I mentioned earlier) are trying their best to bring about the changes around us. So that we can have a semblance of peace and normality.

They’ve made it so easy for us:

To prevent the spread of COVID-19:

Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.

Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.

Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

Stay home if you feel unwell.

If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention.

Then we have people who:

  • don’t want to wear a mask because they are “tired of wearing a mask”, “Doesn’t match with the dress”, “Not cool enough”
  • maybe have supernatural abilities which make them immune to COVID. They feel they don’t need to take any precautions. They are just not going to change.

If you had that awesome immunity, you’d still not go out spreading the virus because you have a BRAIN. Being immune doesn’t mean you can’t spread it. You gotta be mindful for the sake of others as well.

You are not following the rules for someone else. You are following the rules for yourself. If someone else is getting infected because of you, it's on them but it’s on you too. Do you want to be living the rest of your life with that guilt? I don’t. And I don’t even want to imagine someone in that situation.

In F1, there’s a concept of the yellow flag. We need a yellow flag for COVID (we might need some penalty too, for the supernaturally immune brainless ones). Just like you can’t overtake during a yellow flag situation, you can’t keep doing stupid shit during COVID. You gotta stick to the rules or you will be penalized.

WE ARE IN A YELLOW FLAG SITUATION GUYS! So act accordingly.

If you are depressed and reading this, I want you to realize something. COVID is dangerous but you don’t have to be afraid of it. You don’t have to stop living your life. I get that it's a stressful situation but People have gone through much worse and have come out on top and you can do it too. And People are working on it. We’ll get there eventually…

So all you and I got to do is just ride it out. Just keep calm, follow the guidelines, stay distant, and most importantly, relax. It’s safe to say, IT IS GOING TO BE A LONG RIDE. That doesn’t mean it has to be a painful, stressful, morbid, one.

I have probably given everyone, a reason/rationale, to stay safe and to be mindful, to be sensitive to each other. But I feel there’ll still be someone who’d be stupid enough to just ignore everything and fuck it up for themselves and for two three innocent bystanders.

That’s just the thing with idiots, you can never be too careful…
